Our Sweet Potato was taken from us by a brazen predator (bear or cougar) inside the safety of his shelter and Livestock Guardian Dog in August 2020. We are absolutely heartbroken at the loss as we had SUCH big plans for our little man. His 2020 Linear Appraisal was canceled due to COVID-19 so we will never have his official scores. We were able to harvest 12 straws of semen post-mortem, which we will be keeping and using at a future date. We will miss you forever our sweet boy! His daughters continue to do remarkable things in our herd, including multiple daughters on the ELITE list. In 2022 Sweet Potato made his first appearance on the ELITE sires list, posthumously, through the accomplishments of his offspring.
Sweet Potato offers some of the finest milking genetics in the country. He swept 2x Junior Champion Buck at just 6 weeks old at MegaBucks in Grants Pass, OR. He was praised for his outstanding correctness and was called “extremely promising.” Sweet Potato’s dam, SGCH FMG DB&R Easy as Pie, is a Top 10 Breed Leader, placed 9th at 2019 Nationals, receiving the Total Performer award and high 305 day lactation (which tabulates production, Linear Appraisal, and class placing). Pie is in the 99th percentile for milk production and sire Alejandro’s is an ELITE buck with a lineage full of ELITE does. Additional, Alejandro was named 4th Place Get of Sire at the 2019 National Show, meaning he is proven to pass his lovely genetics on. Sweet Potato was named #1 Junior Herdsire by ADGA 4th Quarter 2019 for the highest ETA of ANY Nigerian Dwarf buckling registered in that period, ETA 2:1:220, ETA 1:2:140. In other words, Sweet Potato is the whole package!
